Once upon a time, there was a lovely place overlooking the Ligurian Sea, a corner where the sea was bluest and where the sun was reflected the longest.
Here the mermaids, enchanted by the magnificent scenery offered by the Island of SESTRI LEVANTE, elected to make their home and lay down on the rocks that, like small thrones, emerged from the water.
From the shore, TIGULLIO, the youngest and most beautiful of the Tritons, one day saw SEGESTA, the most beautiful and charming of the Sirens, with eyes bluer than the sea and hair brighter than the sun, and fell hopelessly in love with her.
One night, as the moon made the rocks silver and many, many stars throbbed like his heart, Tigullio attempted to kidnap Segesta, but Neptune, God of the Sea, did not like that paradise being deprived of the most harmonious of its gems and punished, petrifying him, that arm stretched out to seize the siren.
Thus was born an isthmus, a marvelous isthmus, which joined the island to the mainland… Thus were formed the two faces of the city, the two sandy beaches, the two small and romantic gulfs, which were given by world-famous poets the appellations of “Bay of Silence” and “Bay of Fables.”….

And even today it is impossible to look at that promontory, those rocks and that sea, without believing that there in the middle there still dwell the Sirens. It is this enchantment that continues to pass on to the world the legend of ancient “Segesta Tigulliorum”
